{Engagement Session}
Since all of our packages come with an 1 hour engagement session, you can schedule it with us as soon as you’ve officially booked your wedding.
Most people schedule their engagement session 3-6 months before their wedding. Some do so earlier, other do so later – it all depends on their schedule. If you are also getting an engagement guest book, please schedule your engagement session at least 3 months before your wedding. To schedule your e-session, please email me and let me know around what time frame you would like to get the engagement session done (ex. ‘We’d like to get it done before November’, or ‘we’d like to have our engagement session during summer.’)
To schedule your engagement shoot, please send us an email with a general timeframe of when you’d like to have your engagement shoot.
This also reminds me that a lot of couple have emailed us saying, ‘wow I love that e-session with all the wild yellow flowers in the background? Where is that and can we go there?‘
Please keep in mind that wild flowers are seasonal and if you wild flowers as your background/foreground, you have to schedule your engagement session between March to late May. There’s no flowers ANYWHERE in San Diego in the heat of the summer.
But hey, standing in the middle of a dry field in the Summer is equally rad!!
{Props}
First let me say that props are a fun element in an engagement session and we always welcome our clients to bring any props or personal items that have been a significant part of their relationships. That being said – you DON’T have to bring anything to the engagement session and we won’t need to rely on any props to bring out your personality. Your personality will shine through with or without any props.
However, if you feel like bringing something fun along with you, we’d love that as well!!
For example, Fiona & Chris brought scrabble with them to the session, because they are both really into it!
Janice and Jonas brought a bike.

Kim and Mike brought a picnic blanket along to the session, which was so useful!
Mike and Michelle loves cupcakes so we got some cupcakes during the engagement session. They later use this picture to create mini moo cards for their wedding guests.
Gwennie and Minh loves Taekwondo. In fact, Minh owns a Taekwondo studio. We took some shots there and used some broken bricks that he had broken (earlier during class) as props.
Arthur loves taking pictures with his polaroid, so we took some shots of them with it!
{What should I wear for the engagement session? Can I bring a change of clothes?}
Most of my clients bring a change of clothes, so yes – please do bring a change of clothes!! There are tons of cute outfits with style out there, but the tricky part is that sometimes an outfit can look amazing in person but it doesn’t translate well in photos. I have a couple of recommendations of what to wear and what NOT to wear for your engagement session.
What to wear – something cute with a simple design. If you want to wear something with flowery or strong patterns, you might want to pair it with something plain (a solid color cardigan, a plain scarf, etc). Conversely, if you’re wearing something plain, you can add more personality to your outfit by pairing it up with a scarf/belt/purse/shoes/tie(for guys) that pops!
Girls – you can bring a dressy outfit and something a little more casual (a cute top with jeans) to switch things up.
What NOT to wear - Please try to avoid wearing clothes that might show too much skin. No shorts for guys in general – unless we know for sure that we are going into the water on the beach. Please also avoid wearing anything that is completely white. :)
Here are some outfits that my past clients wore that I thought look flattering on photos -
In the photo below, even though she’s wearing something with strong patterns, it looks great because she paired it with a brown (solid color) belt. Her fiance is also wearing something plain which is a great complement of her outfit.

Below, Daphne dressed up her simple outfit with a flowery pattern scarf.

Although both Kim & Denny are both wearing strong patterns, they complemented their outfits with a white scarf and a navy beanie.

{Be prepared to get dirty}
We often have our couples sit down on the ground in on the pavement or in the dirt. We often walk into brush and weeds and even lie down in them! So please be aware of this. If you don’t want to get dirty, no problem, just let us know.
